Germaine Monteil is remembered most for her cosmetics empire, but she was first a fashion designer. She worked at Harry Collins, then in 1930 she started her own clothing business. She manufactured mainly formal day wear and evening wear of a less formal nature. In 1935 she developed a lipstick, which lead to other cosmetic products. By the late 1940s Monteil was working exclusively on her cosmetics business, no longer producing clothing.
