The Hudson’s Bay Company originated in 1670 as fur trading posts, where furs were traded for manufactured goods. By the 19th century there was a string of Hudson’s Bay Company posts throughout Canada. By the end of the 1800s these posts were converting to retail shops. The company is still in operation.
