Dalton was an American cashmere maker, headquartered in Cleveland and Willoughby, Ohio. The company was founded in 1949 as the Fine Gauge Knitwear Company by Arthur Dery and Maurice Saltzman (who was also the owner of Bobbie Brooks). They became well-known for their high-quality cashmere sweaters and coordinating separates such as skirts, slacks, and blouses.
In 1959 Dalton registered the James Kenrob trademark. Under that label the company produced double knits in both wool and synthetic fibers. In the 1980s the company became mainly a maker of mid-priced sportswear, with labels such as Dalton Sport (1982), Dalton Studio (1985), and Lady Dalton (1985). The business closed in 1986.
