Susan Thomas Inc was a family-run business founded in 1943. It began as a juniors dress house, but over time developed a complete line of womenswear, from active sportswear to evening wear. It acquired a number of smaller companies in the 1950s and 1960s, and in 1968 merged with Genesco. Over the next decade the brand saw a decline in sales. In about 1977, Genesco closed all their apparel divisions to concentrate on footwear and accessories.
