Kate Spade New York started with handbags in 1993. It was the brainchild of Kate Brosnahan Spade, a former editor of accessories at Mademoiselle.
By 1996 they had opened their first shop in New York City.
In 2007 Kate Spade & Company took over the brand and shortly thereafter clothing and jewelry were added to the line.
