Sophie Original was designed by Sophie Gimbel. She worked as Saks’ in-house ready-to-wear designer, first as sophiegimbel, then by 1940s as Sophie of Saks, and later Sophie Originals. From the 1930s to the 1950s, she was a top designer of her time, designing expensive, formal clothing for day and evening with a dressmaker touch. Sophie Gimbel worked at Saks from 1931 through 1969.
