Claire Schaffel was a native of Switzerland where had her own dressmaking establishment. She moved with her husband to the United States, where she worked with designer Carrie Munn. In 1955 she opened her own business, making dresses and ensembles. She often used fabrics imported from Switzerland, and she was fond of novel fabric combinations.
