Maurice Sasson started his designer jeans company in 1976. Note the single “o” in the name. It is NOT Vidal Sassoon. Sasoon, Inc. was sued by Vidal Sassoon in the late 1970s for “the appropriation of its name.” The case was settled in 1980 with Sasson, Inc, agreeing to using the pronunciation sa-sohn in its advertising and Vidal Sassoon agreeing to adding the name Vidal to all its logos.
