Saramae made mid-priced lingerie. “Bert Yelin started Saramae Lingerie in 1954, and in 1955 Lewis Kaufman became a 50% partner. Bert bought out Lewis Kaufman in 1980 and became 100% owner again. Saramae was closed in 1992. Bert was the company’s only designer and was also the sole designer for Iris Lingerie from 1974 to 1992. Bert Yelin was also honored as Man of The Year by the Intimate Apparel Square Club in 1975. He also received over 8 awards by the French lace industry for his lace designs, the most of any foreigner, and over 6 schiffli embroidery awards in the U.S.”
Our thanks to Robert Yelin for this information.
