In 1937 Max Lewis founded the Royal Hawaiian Manufacturing Company in Honolulu, Hawaii. By 1947 it was owned by G.J. Watumull, who made island clothing from tropical printed cotton and silk. Watumull marketed this line through his Watumull’s East India Stores.
