Nudie Cohn, (1902-1984) was one of the great makers of Hollywood cowboy-style suits. Nudie began making cowboy-style attire in 1940, doing orders for clients like Spade Cooley, Tex Williams, and Audie Murphy. In 1947 he opened a Nudie’s of Hollywood shop. From the shop he supplied western stars, country music singers, and also provided costumes for the movies. The list of the stars he dressed reads like a Who’s Who of western stars: Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, Audie Murphy, Hopalong Cassidy, Glenn Ford, John Wayne.

In 1957 he made the famous gold lame suit that Elvis wore on an album cover. Other rock ‘n’ roll stars sought out Nudie for unusual stage costumes. Nudie died in 1984, but the business continued on under the direction of his wife and granddaughters.
