Merivale was the first youth-oriented fashion boutique in Australia. It was established in the mid-1960s and was fashioned after the famous boutiques of London. The House of Merivale, owned by John and Merivale Hemmes, was also known as Merivale Hemmes and Merivale and Mr John. The label lasted into the 1970s.
