Edward L. Mayer was a highly regarded maker of women’s fashions in the early part of the 20th century. His clothes were famed for their quality and fit. In 1915 a young Main Bocher (Mainbocher) supplied fashion sketches to the company. Clare Potter worked there in the 1920s, first as a researcher, then as a designer.
