Malihini was one of the many family-owned Hawaiian clothing companies. It was owned by Raymond and Mildred Sasaki and their children, with several generations of the family working in the company that began in 1948. By 1970 there were four lines, including their junior label, Malama, and a label for kids. During the 1980s competition forced the company to downsize and by 1994 they were making uniforms for the Island resort industry.
