Cathy Hardwick (b. 1933) was born in Korea and moved to the US in the 1950s. In San Francisco in the 1960s she started a boutique for which she was designing the clothes. Manufacturer Alvin Duskin hired her to design for him, so Hardwick moved to New York. In 1972 she started Cathy Hardwick ‘n’ Friends, her own label, after she was approached by Bloomingdales.
Hardwick took a break from designing in the 1980s, but by 1985 she was back in business.
From 1986-1988, Tom Ford was the chief designer at Cathy Hardwick. The company declared bankruptcy in 1988.
In the 1990s, Cathy Hardwick moved into designing home furnishings and dinnerware, most notably for Mikasa.
