Hale Hawaii means “Hawaiian House” or “House of Hawaii” in the Hawaiian language. The label was started by second-generation Chinese immigrant, Wah Cho Lock (or Loh, in the original Chinese). Lock concentrated on Hawaiian-print shirts. He sold his company to Elsie T. and H. L. Chun in 1958. The company name was changed to Sportswear Hawaii.
