Princess Irene Galitzine (1916-2006) was a Russian who ended up in Rome as a result of the Russian Revolution. Galitzine worked as an assistant at Fontana before she started her fashion house in 1949. She was known for casual clothes with a heavy dose of luxury.
A good example of her style is her 1960s sensation, the Palazzo pant – wide-legged trousers made of the finest silks and embellished with jewels and embroidery. Galitzine was closed in 1968 until 1970, when she reopened. Galitzine sold her business in 1990. It is still open.
