The Flobert Co., a maker of silk underwear named for Florence and Bertha Stern, was founded in New York City some time before 1924. The company was likely established by their brother, Ben C Stern, an Austro-Hungarian immigrant. By 1940, the company was located at 146 Madison Avenue, as noted on Ben’s WWII draft registration. Flobert specialized in women’s negligees, pajamas, robes, and loungewear. Designer Norma Dare was associated with Flobert, designing negligees for them starting in 1940 and also contributing to the Patterns of The Times: American Designer Series sewing patterns.

In 1972, Ben C. Stern of Flobert Co. associated with Vivante Loungewear Co., Inc., to create Vivante-Flobert Inc.
