Butte Knit was a division of the Jonathan Logan Corporation, which was, in the 1960s, the largest manufacturer of women’s clothing in the world. Butte Knit was established by David Schwartz in 1959 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. It was the first company to produce doubleknit fabric in the US.
The Butte Knit factory was unique in that it was a vertical factory, in which the entire process from the spinning of the yarn to the finished garment was produced in one place.
In the UK, Butte Knit was produced by Steinburgs & Sons Ltd. of South Wales.
