Anne-Marie Beretta was born in 1937 in Béziers, France, moving to Paris in 1957 to pursue a career in fashion. She collaborated with big names in fashion design such as Antonio Castillo, Jacques Esterel and Oleg Cassini before founding her own ready-to-wear brand in 1974. Known for her innovative creations and her experiments with textiles, Beretta revolutionized the concept of the raincoat in the 1980s. Her style is characterized by asymmetrical lines and over-sized proportions. She is possibly best-known for her iconic “101801” coat, designed for Max Mara in 1981, still in production today. In addition to fashion, she also exhibited her paintings and utilitarian objects in Paris between 1995 and 1997.
