Bradley, Voorhees & Day was founded in 1876 as makers of women’s bustles. They soon began making knit underwear for men and women. They became known for their improvements to the one piece union suit. In the late 1920s they began manufacturing bathing suits of knit wool. Olympic swimmer Johnny Weissmuller was the spokesman for the suits, making personal appearances wearing a B.V.D swimsuit. In the 1960s, the company also made sportsclothes and tee shirts. They are still in business today, and are owned by Fruit of the Loom.
