Stingray leather is a byproduct of hunting, and considered a sustainable material. The surface is naturally “beaded”, but is sometimes textured to be flat. The beads are rich in calcium. Natural color varies, and many stingray products are dyed in exotic colors. Some stingray leather has a white “eye” in the center of the skin where the calcium beads are most prominent. Stingray leather is water resistant and much more durable than many leathers but somewhat more rigid, probably because the fibers run in random directions. Most often used for accessories, or for accents on larger items.
