Leading up to America’s 1976 bicentennial many patriotic motifs emerged, and there was also a resurgence of interest in early colonial motifs. Vintage American was a bicentennial-era label from the late 1960s into the 1970s and this particular piece features a motif that is widely seen on colonial Virginian quilts and in stenciling found on furniture pieces such as the Hitchcock chair. Later, more current country and colonial decorating schemes also featured the same stylized looks.
