Richard Cole was a Seventh Avenue dressmaker, starting in 1952 and lasting at least into the 1960s. Cole got his training at the dress manufacturing firm of Sheila-Lynn, which was owned by his father, Arthur Cole. After several years of training he opened his own business. Richard Cole was never the designer, but instead employed various designers including Alan Phillips, Charles Howard and Ruth Goodelman.
In 1967, Richard Cole was named president of a division at the Manhattan Shirt Company, Lady Manhattan.
