Tuesday, March 4, 2025, is a day of unabashed revelry in New Orleans. The next day, Ash Wednesday, marks the beginning of Lent—a period of abstinence that continues through April 17th. Mardi Gras has deep ties to Catholicism, and these religious holidays determine the dates of the celebration.

Traditional Mardi Gras colors are Purple, Green, and Gold:

  • Purple represents justice
  • Green represents faith
  • Gold represents power

These colors were first used in 1872 during the inaugural Rex parade. 153 years later, they remain the iconic colors of Mardi Gras.
