Oilcloth is a plain weave cotton fabric made waterproof with a coating of boiled linseed oil and pigment. It can have a dull, pebbled or smooth finish. The finish is prone to cracking. Since the 1950s, the traditional oilcloth has evolved to be made of PVC bonded to a woven or nonwoven cloth backing.
Uses: Rainwear and dress trims; casual tablecloths, tents and shopping bags.
