Before going to Paris in 1980, Patrick Kelly (1954-1990) was a vintage clothing dealer in Atlanta, Georgia. In Paris he worked as a free-lance designer and in 1985 he formed Patrick Kelly, Paris, a ready-to-wear line. In 1987 he showed his first couture collection and became the first American to be admitted into the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne.
He was known for his bold, exaggerated design details and his clothes always had a sense of fun.
