Kaplan, Nat

Nat Kaplan, Inc. was a dress manufacturing company established by Nathan H. Kaplan, as early as 1935. The company made moderately expensive ready-to-wear. In the 1930s Nat Kaplan was a member of the Fashion Originators Guild.

When Nat Kaplan died unexpectedly in 1956 his widow, Sylvia, and his son, Richard, decided to continue on with the business. With Richard as manager and Sylvia as designer, the firm continued in business for at least another thirty years.

The Kappi label was a division of Nat Kaplan. Nat Kaplan closed around 1986. In 1991 Richard Kaplan founded the Worth Collection, another women’s line. He died in 1996.
