Malcolm Starr made a popular line of evening dresses from 1961 through the 1970s. A Malcolm Starr dress was commonly a sculptural and simple shift dress which was elaborately beaded and sequined. The company also made day attire, in the form of dress and coat or jacket sets. By the end of the 1970s, they were also making separates.

Two designer names associated with Malcolm Starr are Youssef Rizkallah, who joined Starr in 1969 and was there until 1975, and Elinor (Rizkallah) Simmons, who had been there from the early 1960s until 1972. Also, Carol Horn was with Malcolm Starr for a brief period in the early 1970s.

Starr was also a partner with Teal Traina in Gino Charles
