Mr. Dino, whose actual name was Max Cohen, started the business in the late fifties. As he was starting this new business, he and his family sat around the dinner table thinking of names. Everyone put names in a hat. His wife came up with Mr. Dino because she was a great fan of Dean Martin.
Mr. Dino began in a small warehouse in Miami and from there Max Cohen built a huge factory in Miami where all the clothing was manufactured. Cohen designed every print on every garment. He actually invented the silk screening machine that was used to screen the print onto the fabric. Often compared to Emilio Pucci, Mr. Dino was recognized and known for his own unique designs. In the late sixties, Mr. Dino sold out to US Industries but Cohen remained CEO of the company.
After he retired, Cohen started another business called St. Maxime. St. Maxime was a bathing suit line with the same kind of prints as Mr. Dino.
From information supplied by Max Cohen’s daughter.
