Ben J. Gam founded his eponymous high-end dress manufacturing business on 7th Avenue in New York in 1943. Wilson Folmar designed for Ben J. Gam from 1946. The business closed in about 1952, although Gam items were available in close-out sales until 1955.
Gam was born in Russia, as recounted by his step-daughter Rita Gam, the actress.
