Ben Zuckerman emigrated to America from Romania to live and work in New York’s garment district. His primary skill was tailoring and his suits and coats were admired for their cut and quality. Zuckerman originally worked as part of a partnership, Zuckerman and Kraus, which was formed in 1925. In 1950 it became known as Ben Zuckerman.

Zuckerman had the distinction of having the largest collection in most seasons; as many as 300 styles was common. The designer at Zuckerman was Harry Shacter, who was known for his ability to design suits and coats that were inspired by the Paris collections, but that were also highly wearable. Ben Zuckerman closed in 1968.
