Elie Tahari (b.1952) debuted on the fashion scene in 1974 with the creation and fantastic success of the tube top. In the 1970s, the Elie Tahari Collection was the first choice of Bloomingdale’s, Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue. The retailers created a dedicated space within their stores and designed the space according to Mr. Tahari’s specifications.

In the 1980s he created tasteful, well-tailored suits, career dressing for women that remained feminine, and choices upon choices for a male-dominated business culture. Theory, a sportswear line, was launched in 1997. In 1999, Elie Tahari’s namesake company was re-fashioned, and led to a highly successful collection with plum retailer Bergdorf Goodman.
