John Galliano (b. 1960) attended St. Martin’s School of Art and for his senior showing he designed a collection inspired by late 18th century France. The collection was sold to a London boutique and Galliano was able to start his own business. His collections have often been influenced by history, with a touch of fantasy.

In 1995, Galliano was hired to replace the retiring Hubert de Givenchy, but the position was not suited to Galliano’s talents and he was soon replaced. In 1996, he was hired as designer at Dior, where he designed the couture collection. In March, 2011, Galliano was fired by Dior after an incident in a bar where Galliano was caught on videotape hurling antisemitic slurs at fellow patrons. In September of 2011, Galliano stood trial and was found guilty of making antisemitic remarks and sentenced to €6,000 in suspended fines. He lost a subsequent appeal.

In 2014 Galliano became the Creative Director for Maison Margiela.
