Desses, Jean

Jean Dessès (1904-1970) began his design career at Mme. Jane in Paris in 1925. He worked there as a designer until 1937 when he started his own couture house. Dessès was Greek and his designs were influenced by ancient Greek design, with flowing and draped chiffon being a favorite. He began a ready-to-wear line in 1949 and starting in 1951 he designed a line for the American company Raymodes. Valentino was an assistant at Dessès from 1950-1955.

Dessès closed the couture line in 1960 and his ready-to-wear line in 1965. He continued to work as a freelance designer until his death in 1970.
