Marguerite Hofer was born in the French-speaking section of Switzerland in 1876, and emigrated to the US in 1889. She married Francis G. Shaw in 1905, and spent the WWI years in France working to support an American depot for the French wounded.

Marguerite Hofer Shaw was listed first as a dressmaker at 33 Newbury St., Boston, Mass. in 1927. By September of 1927, her business was noted as a women’s apparel shop that would be moving to 36 Newbury St. later in the autumn. Her shop continued to be listed in directories through 1932.

Marguerite’s last listing is in 1932. Francis Shaw died in 1938. Marguerite died in 1952.
