Madeleine Fauth began designing in the 1930s, working for one of the Seventh Avenue junior houses. She and a friend started their own line, Valroy, in the late 1930s, but it lasted only about a year. She moved on to the International Dress Company, where she again designed dresses for juniors, and in 1942 she was hired to do the same at Arkay. Fauth was instrumental in making junior lines more sophisticated. Her dresses from the 1950s often featured full skirts and princess seaming. She also designed petticoats to go under her dresses and shoes and accessories to match.
